Where Do I Start? How to get Involved?

Faith Rooted in Love

At the heart of every Missionaries of Jesus (MJ) endeavor is a simple, profound truth: we do not serve because we have much to give, but because we have been deeply loved by Christ. Our mission is not a project to be managed, but a "Faith Rooted in Love"—a love that compels us to leave our comfort zones and seek the face of God in the peripheries. When we volunteer, we are not merely offering a service; we are offering ourselves as friends. This root of love binds the MJ brothers and our lay partners together, transforming our work from a task into a shared prayer. We invite you to let your faith take root here, growing into a love that knows no borders and recognizes every stranger as a brother or sister.

Faith In Action: Who are the friends of the MJ?

The "Friends of the MJ" are a diverse tapestry of people united by a common call to accompaniment. We are teachers, doctors, students, office workers, and retirees who believe that the Gospel must be visibly felt. We are those who refuse to remain indifferent to the struggles of the Lumad or the cries of the poor. As friends of this mission, we do not walk ahead of the people, nor behind them; we walk with them. We are a community that finds joy in simplicity, strength in dialogue, and purpose in being "sent" together. To be a Friend of the MJ is to embrace the messiness of the frontiers with a smile, trusting that in serving the "least of these," we are encountering Jesus Himself.

Finding Your Place in the Harvest

Our missions in the peripheries require a diverse set of hands. While a missionary heart is the most important requirement, we are often in need of specific skills to help our communities flourish.

Where do your gifts lie?

"As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace."

The "Volunteer Heart" Reflection

Before you click below, we invite you to reflect on these three pillars of our lay partnership:

  • Presence over Project: Are you willing to prioritize building relationships with the people over simply finishing a task?

  • Cultural Humility: Are you ready to learn from the wisdom of the poor and the Indigenous Lumad?

  • Simple Living: Are you prepared to step out of your comfort zone and embrace the simple life of the mission frontiers?

If your heart says "Yes," we would love to meet you.

A Community of Friends and Disciples

When you walk with us in mission, you join a global family dedicated to the Gospel. Your support connects you to a journey of shared faith, deep friendship, and service to the margins.

We believe that the harvest is far too great for any one group to gather alone. The Missionaries of Jesus warmly welcome Youth Groups, Parish Organizations, and Lay Communities who wish to bring their "Community Extension Activities" or "Immersion Programs" to our mission stations. To ensure that our collaboration is truly a "Formation for Greater Love," we invite visiting groups to follow these guiding principles of our charism:

Formed for Greater Love and Service

  • A Spirit of Presence: We prioritize "being with" the community over "doing for" them. We encourage visiting groups to spend time listening to the stories of the people.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: Our mission stations, especially among the Tagakaulo, are sacred spaces of indigenous culture. We ask all partners to approach with humility and respect for local traditions.

  • Mutual Formation: We do not just go to the missions to give; we go to be transformed. Every activity should be bookended by reflection and prayer to see where God was present.

  • Sustainability & Peace: We coordinate activities that align with the long-term needs of the community, fostering self-reliance and inter-religious harmony.

If your group is ready to experience a mission that is truly "incarnated" in the life of the people, let us talk about how we can serve together.
