OUR SOLEMN PROMISE
Rooted in Scripture and Teaching
We take our mandate directly from Christ, who warned, "Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck..." (Matthew 18:6).
We recognize that every person, especially those in our care, is a "temple of the Holy Spirit" (1 Corinthians 6:19), deserving of profound respect and protection from all forms of harm.
We affirm the Church’s teaching that misconduct is a scandal (CCC 2284) that wounds the Body of Christ. Our commitment is to ensure that our presence in the missions brings light, not darkness.
Fostering Integrity
Our commitment begins with the spiritual health of our missionaries. We actively promote Fostering Integrity in Ministry (FIM), which ensures our religious vows are lived consistently with our ministerial behavior.
We demand integrity—the state of being "undivided"—where a missionary's private life of chastity, poverty, and obedience is fully consistent with his public service.
We recognize the inherent power imbalance in the cultures we serve, particularly in Indigenous communities. Any misuse of pastoral authority is considered a grave betrayal of our trust and mission.
Accountability and Decisive Action
When harm occurs, our first priority is the protection and healing of the victim. Our protocols are designed for swift, compassionate, and decisive action.
We operate with a primary focus on the victim’s safety, support, and healing, guided by the principle that "Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth" (1 Corinthians 13:6).
The spiritual bond between the Superior and the Missionary will never prevent the congregation from acting for the common good. We are committed to removing from the ministry any member who poses a risk.
All actions taken are strictly in accord with Canon Law, Philippine Civil Law, and the directives of the Church (including Vos Estis Lux Mundi).
A Call to Partnership in Safety
Safeguarding is a community effort. We rely on the vigilance of our partners and the communities we serve to help us maintain a safe environment.
If you or someone you know has been harmed by a member of the Missionaries of Jesus, or if you have a serious concern regarding the safety of a minor in our care, please do not stay silent. We are ready to listen to the truth in charity (Ephesians 4:15).
