Go Where Others Won’t.

There is a story God wants to write through your life—one that goes beyond the comforts of home. It is a journey of crossing cultures and creeds to find Jesus waiting in the peripheries.

Prayer for Formation in Discernment

Holy Spirit, you, light of our understanding, gentle breath that guides our decisions, grant me the grace to listen attentively to your voice and to discern the hidden paths of my heart, so that I may grasp what truly matters to you, and free my heart from its troubles. I ask you for the grace to learn how to pause, to become aware of the way I act, of the feelings that dwell within me, and of the thoughts that overwhelm me, which, so often, I fail to notice. I long for my choices to lead me to the joy of the Gospel. Even if I must go through moments of doubt and fatigue, even if I must struggle, reflect, search, and begin again… Because, at the end of the journey, your consolation is the fruit of the right decision. Grant me a deeper understanding of what moves me, so that I may reject what draws me away from Christ, and love him and serve him more fully.

Amen.

Why Is the Mission Waiting for You?

The Lord Jesus reminded us that 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few' (Matthew 9:37).

In the remote mountains and forgotten communities of the Philippines, the harvest is waiting, but the laborers are missing. We invite you because we cannot do this alone. In the spirit of Evangelii Gaudium, we are called to be a 'Church which goes forth.' We need your strength and your faith to help us build inclusive communities where God’s love is not just heard, but felt.

What Happens Now?

Entering the Missionaries of Jesus is not like applying for a traditional career; it is a spiritual journey of Accompaniment. As you have discovered throughout this website, it is a process of deep discernment—an intentional time of exploring your heart’s desires to see if they align with God’s dream for your life and the mission of the frontiers.

If you feel a stirring in your soul, let these first steps guide your path:

I. Deepen Your Reflection

Begin by looking inward with honesty and courage. Ask yourself:

  • When I hear about the struggles of the marginalized or the Lumad, what moves within me? What brings me a sense of peace that the world cannot give? Am I ready to be a 'friend' to those whom society has forgotten? Reflect on your life experiences—even the difficult ones—to see how God has been preparing you for a life of service.

II. Dwell in Prayer

Mission is born in the heart of Jesus. To know if you are called to this life, you must spend time with the One who sends.

  • The Word: Spend time with the Gospels, especially the scenes where Jesus sends His disciples to the peripheries.

  • Silence: Seek out a retreat or a quiet space away from the noise of the world to listen for the "still, small voice."

  • Dialogue: Talk to God as a friend. Share your fears, your excitement, and your uncertainties with Him.

III. Immerse in the Mission

Learn about our unique charism as "Friends and Disciples."

  • Explore: Spend more time on this website reading about our history, our presence in Mindanao, and our commitment to inter-religious dialogue.

  • Connect: Reach out to us. There is no substitute for a real conversation. Connecting with an MJ priest or brother can help demystify the religious life and provide you with a companion for your discernment.

Hear the Heart of The Mission

A Mission is not just a task, but a life fully lived. Listen to our brothers share the joy, the struggle, and the profound grace of being a Friend and Disciple.
